Aye Captains!
The long awaited update from Virtual Headquarters (we're not virtual by the way but actually a bunch of guys who love to sail as much as you do) is here. The first leg is well underway and finally most of us made it through the Strait of Gibraltar. We did notice some boats heading to Saint Tropez though!
As most of us have seen and experienced we started the race in Delta Lloyd style. Fast, furious and a lot of learning on the job. Right now we.re done learning and are ready to put some enhancements in the game. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Most of the questions raised on our ever expanding forum are being addressed in the FAQ so please take a look there first.
Some statistics
We.re five days on the water and our virtual armada has grown to over 27000 yachts. You can almost walk to the Canary Islands jumping from ship to ship!
- The average virtual sailor has spent 7.5 hours online so far. This adds up to 23 years spent online in the Race by all of us so far.
- The current leader of the Race is Aldabdra! She.s well ahead of the real teams as well!
- The guy that really needs to put some effort in his sailing is Bekelarre 2 from Spain. He.s at position 27636. Hang in there Bekelarre 2!

Moderators Wanted
Due to the overwhelming success we are a bit short of deckhands helping us out on the site. If you feel you have some spare time on your hands and love to help us out in answering questions please send us an email. Especially French, Spanish and Swedish speaking sailors are welcome.
Questions & Answers.
We.ve collected the most important questions and here are the answers. Be sure to check the FAQ from time to time because we this will be updated often.
How can a boat that just joined the race sail in front of me?
The game is designed in a way that late starters in the leg will be placed in the last 20% of the yachts. This is done so it still makes sense for people to join after the leg has started. Since there are over 27000 boats at the moment and they're very close to each other it can happen that a boat starts 2000 places in front of you while they're only 2 miles ahead of you in the water. We.re tweaking these settings to avoid this happening in the next legs.
How do Auto Sails work?
Auto Sails work only for switching automatically between your two standard sails (Jib & Spi). If you want to use your pro-sails, which may be better in some cases, you will have to do it manually as not to give auto sails too big of an advantage.
What time is used in the Programmable Pilot Option?
The time is calculated on GMT+1. These settings are being reprogrammed to make it a lot easier for you.
How can i run aground when i'm in deep water?
This happened in the Gibraltar area. The Strait basically was not big enough to let 27000 yachts go through at the same time. The game display was not detailed enough. We have fixed this and created a bigger Strait ourselves!
Can i change the setting off the game and boat?
You only can set the coloring of your yacht and sails once. The same goes for the kilometres versus knots. The development team is investigating this enhancement. We won.t let you change the name of the boat. This is sailing 101 we all know it.s bad luck if you do!
How come other boats are faster with the same wind?
The don.t have the same wind. The game doesn.t show you the exact speed of the wind of other boats. Don.t forget it might look like the other boat is right beside you but in reality it can be 40 miles.
What polars are used in the game?
We have done our utmost best to create the right polars. Since the real ones are highly confidential it is our best guestimate. After the end of leg one, we will evaluate them and if necessary adjust them in the game. But the main thing to remember is that we all have the same polars. So even if they are not right they.re still fair.
Do we have to sail all legs?
Ranking will be calculated on the first nine legs with the worst three deducted. You have to sail leg 5, 7 and 9, those legs cannot be deducted for the overall rankeing. So no you don.t have to sail them all but it will sure increase your chances of winning the VolvoC30.

We want to make this Race as much fun as possible and are giving away prizes for all kind of achievements!
